Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some frequently asked questions:
Can we wear civilian clothes to the Braceland?
Yes. Appropriate dress for the Braceland Seminar is business casual. Women always seem to know what business casual means, while men not used to this term have difficulty. For the men, business casual means nice slacks paired with a tucked in collared shirt. No tie is expected. A belt is required, as are shoes and socks. More senior persons in the organization would be expected to wear more expensive casual clothes, such as adding a jacket or wool trousers. A junior person would be appropriately dressed in a polo shirt and cotton slacks. Business casual never includes jeans, a college sweatshirt or sandals. Your presentation in civilian clothes substitutes for the military uniform, which would be Summer Whites. Aim to look as good as you would in Summer Whites, and you will hit the target. If you have questions, ask your wife (or the woman you trust).
Does the Braceland Seminar issue receipts?
Yes. Receipts for those who prepay are sent by email when payment is received. Immediately following the conference I will email receipts to those who pay at the Braceland Seminar.
Can I claim the cost of the Braceland Seminar on my travel claim?
Yes, but you cannot claim the cost of meals associated with the Braceland Seminar if you are on government orders. You have already been paid the cost of meals as part of your per diem. There will be a lot of food at the Braceland Seminar, but only lunch meets the definition of a meal under government rules. I have determined, under advisement of a senior SJA, that the cost of lunch for government reimbursement purposes is twenty dollars. Thus, on your government travel voucher you can claim your cost of attending the Braceland Seminar minus twenty dollars.
