Wear Some Flowers in Your Hair
San Francisco is a tremendous city. There is so much to see and do. You could spend all day just walking around the city and have a wonderful time for free. If you plan to do that, wear comfortable shoes.
I've added to the blog a very short list of San Francisco info items. The official visitor site has almost everything you will need to plan your fun in San Francisco. The interactive map feature is really good, and if you scroll down, you will find pre-scaled neighborhood maps that are ready to print. The link to the Golden Gate Bridge gives history and facts, quite enlightening. Beyond the bridge, how could you get out of San Francisco without visiting the historic prison, Alcatraz?
The easiest and most economical way to get to and from the airport is by Super Shuttle. The fare from SFO to the Marines' Memorial Club is $17. You will be reimbursed if you decide to take a taxi, which may cost $28, but if you use Super Shuttle, you save the government money.
With all the emphasis on the economy, a tour of the Federal Reserve Bank might be in order. Free tours without a reservation are available on Friday at noon, if you get in that early.
The San Francisco Giants are playing the New York Mets at AT&T Park. The ball park is walkable from most downtown hotels. Not the match-up I want to see, but ardent baseball fans don't care. The last time we were in New York, one of our junior attendings apologized for excusing himself after lunch to go to the Yankees game. Oh well.
Want to find a restaurant? I have included two links. One to the social network site Yelp, which provides user reviews of restaurants. The second is to OpenTable, the restaurant reservation site. If you are going to eat out, you might as well earn points.
Finally, there is Wicked, the musical, which is having an extended run in San Francisco. This great show, selling out on Broadway and around the country on tour, might be a best bet to see in San Francisco. See it now, because it won't be coming to your town if you live in Jacksonville, North Carolina.
