Braceland Registration

The Braceland Seminar, Navy Psychiatry’s annual academic symposium, will be held in San Francisco this year at the Marines’ Memorial Club on 16 May from 0730 to 1600. The Marines’ Memorial Club, located at the corner of Sutter and Mason Streets (609 Sutter St, 94102), is the traditional home of the Braceland Seminar in San Francisco. The Marines’ Memorial Club is a non-profit organization that provides hotel and banquet services for active duty and veteran service members. Our meeting room is on the second to highest floor of the building.

Our APA assigned hotel would have cost more than $55 per person compared to the deal we are getting at the Marines’ Memorial Club. In fact, even at this discounted rate, we will get more at Marines’ Memorial Club than we would have at the APA assigned hotel.

The fee to attend the Braceland Seminar this year is $85 if you pay in advance and $95 at the event. This cost is predicated on several assumptions. First, that we have 30 people or more in attendance. Second, that we provide our own laptop and projector. And third, that we have more than 30 people attending. Less than 30 people will raise the cost to those attending by at least $25. All but $10 of the event fee is reimbursable if you are on government travel orders.

Registration is simple and easy. All you have to do is send me an email that you plan to attend. Then bring a check to the seminar. Cash will not be accepted on the day of the seminar. You must bring a check. Better yet, you could pay in advance and save $10.

Payment in advance is better for me and better for you. If you pay in advance, you will not have to remember to bring a check. To pay in advance, just ask for my mailing address when you email me your promise to attend, then send me a check.

I have already signed a contract and paid for this event. Your registration is a promise to pay me. Last year, two psychiatrists who promised to pay me by registering did not attend, and I had to pay for them. I have never made a profit running the Braceland Seminar. I am willing to take the risk of nonpayment again this year, but given last year’s experience, I had to construct a cancellation policy.

Cancellations will be accepted up until 10 days before the event, 6 May. If you promised to pay and planned to pay at the event, if you cancel by 6 May, you are good to go. If you pay in advance and cancel by 6 May, I will refund your complete fee. If you cancel after 6 May or fail to show at the event, I will expect you to pay if you promised to pay at the event. Otherwise it comes out of my pocket. You may not have to pay the entire fee, but you will have to pay actual hotel charges, which might be lower than the entire fee. If you pay in advance and cancel after 6 May or fail to show, likewise I will refund whatever is left after actual hotel charges are paid.

If this is not clear, or if you have any questions prior to promising to attend, please email me.
