The Sears Award Nominations

Nominations for the 2008 Sears Award are open until 15 April 2008. To nominate a Navy Psychiatrist for The Sears Award, forward a short narrative biography of the nominee by email. The narrative biography should be no more than a paragraph. Please do not submit a curriculum vitae. For more information on The Sears Award, see the post below. Here is an example of a short narrative biography:

Commander Paul S. Hammer enlisted in the United States Marine Corps after high school and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in chemistry from the University of San Francisco, and his Medical Doctorate from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in 1988. CDR Hammer completed psychiatry internship at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland in 1989 and his psychiatry residency at Naval Medical Center San Diego in 1992. He performed his utilization tour at Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton, after which he was assigned as 1st Marine Division Psychiatrist. In 1996 he returned to Naval Medical Center San Diego as head of the Fleet Mental Health Unit at Naval Station San Diego. He then led San Diego's Operational and Community Mental Health Services, overseeing the mental health operations at four clinics. In 2000 he became head of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry. CDR Hammer has extensive experience in crisis and disaster psychiatry as the head of San Diego's SPRINT Team. In 1997 he led the team to Guam that responded to the Korean Airlines flight 801 crash, and in 1998 he led the team to Honduras and Nicaragua for intervention in the Hurricane Mitch disaster. In 2003 CDR Hammer became Program Director of residency training. He deployed to Iraq in support of OIF-II with 1st Medical Battalion, serving at both al Taqqadum and Fallujah. He was with Bravo Surgical Company in Fallujah during the battle for the city in November 2004. In October 2005 he was ordered to 1st Marine Division with additional duties with 1st Marine Expeditionary Force. He is currently deployed for his second tour in Iraq as the I MEF (Fwd) Psychiatrist and is responsible for coordinating mental health care for 23,000 Marines and sailors of I MEF in a 50,000 square mile area of western Iraq.
